Hanging wallpaper is not difficult when there are specific instructions to go on. Is it time to update your home or office?

If wallpaper is a new endeavor for you, be certain to select your variety carefully by reading the different kinds at the store. The variety of wallpaper you choose will determine the installation requirements. The pre-pasted versions integrate a dry paste onto the back of the surface. This sort of wallpaper utilizes water to switch on the paste. The unpasted selections have to have a wet paste that is applied when installing.. Typically, the installation method is the same although depending on which sort you use the instructions may vary.

Measure, cut, activate with H20 or paste and hang up are the general instructions for installing wallpaper.

Wall Preparation

Before getting started, clear your work space and the surface area. Remove wall accessories and ensure electrical outlets are switched off. Use TSP or some wall cleaner to clean the wall surface and prepare it by ensuring any previous wallpaper or paste is taken off.

Use a premixed universal primer for wallpaper to prepare your wall. Priming the wall is a vital step when you are affixing unpasted wallpaper since it allows easier removal of the wallpaper later.

Measure & Activate the Paper

Begin with measuring the wall length. Next, add four inches and after that cut your wallpaper. Ideally, you desire the paper overlapping at the baseboard and the ceiling by approximately two inches.

Take pattern matching into account via straight across, drop match, or random.

If hanging unpasted wallpaper…

With unpasted wallpaper, you can apply the paste to the wall surface or to the paper itself. If pasting the wall, apply the paste evenly to the wall, covering an area for one strip only. When sticking the wallpaper, begin in the centre and work away towards the edges when you evenly coat the wallpaper. Next, loosely fold up the moistened strip with the pasted sections together. Permit it to sit for three minutes in a process known as “booking.”

Uncover your preference with unpasted wallpaper to determine if you like applying the paste on the wall or to the back of the paper. If applying to the wall, ensure that you evenly apply the paste to an area for one strip of wallpaper at a time. If you are pasting the wallpaper, cautiously apply an even coat to the back of the wallpaper. Always start in the middle of the wallpaper portion and move toward the outside edges. Carefully and loosely fold the moistened wallpaper strip placing pasted sides together with each other in a strategy known as “booking.” Enable the booking aka folded wallpaper to sit in this manner for 3 minutes.

When you are hanging heavier wallpapers that incorporate embroidery, cork, or flock in their design, purchase a heavyweight clear, stain-free pre-mixed paste to handle the excess weight instead of a light-to-medium product.

When hanging pre-pasted wallpaper…

Roll your cut strip loosely and get the patterned side facing inward and the pasted side to the outside. Then place the rolled strip for half a minute into warm water to enable the paste to activate. Alternatively, you may use a Wallpaper Hand Sprayer to achieve a similar effect by activating the paste with a fine mist of clean water to the pasted area.

If you use the hand sprayer, spray in long strokes that are the length of the paper to completely moisten the back of the strip. Take additional care around the edges to produce even watering. Next, fold up each end part of the moistened strip toward the center with pasted sides together. Ensure the edges don’t dry out by precisely aligning the edges. Carefully roll the strip much like a rolled newspaper and enable it to rest for three minutes. This booking action permits the paste to become totally activated and the paper to relax and become more manageable.

Hanging your first strip

Once the booking process is complete after three minutes, bring your strip to the wall. Meticulously unfold the strip and hang it up. Let the wallpaper overhang on the ceiling as well as the baseboard. Carefully press out any air bubbles employing a smoothing brush, a broad knife, or a plastic smoother. Push on the wallpaper to enable adequate contact and bond to the wall. Take care not to stretch or distort the wallpaper. Gently press on the seam to flatten them with a seam roller.

Proceeding to the second strip

If you are butting the second strip up to the first, position the second strip of wallpaper to the side of the first strip. Smoothly press the wallpaper securely. Eliminate any residual paste by washing the ceiling and also the baseboard after. Ideally, your seams should be vertical with a tight fit. Ensure there are no air bubbles in the paste.

After installing 3 wallpaper pieces and getting rid of any excess paste, step back and examine your work. Check the sheets for color and style uniformity. Proceed in a similar manner, three panels each time around your space. Allow yourself more installation and selvage trimming time if you are dealing with complex patterns and geometric designs. Take pauses when you want to rest your arms and your eyes. Don’t rush your wallpaper undertaking. Putting up your strips in this way will help you achieve uniform results. Once you're finished, cut the extra trim along the baseboards and ceiling carefully. It is suggested that you depend on a guide and a razor knife to assist in trimming without tearing.
